Ethical Policy
As a member of the National Hypnotherapy Society, I adhere to the following ethical principles in my practice:
Working towards the good of clients and doing no harm: I prioritize the welfare of my clients and commit to avoiding any actions that may cause harm.
Being trustworthy and responsible: I strive to establish trust with my clients and the community. I act in a respectful, professional, and ethical manner while representing my profession.
Respect for the dignity and rights of the client: I recognize and uphold the rights of my clients to make their own decisions and be treated with dignity and respect.
Justice: I am aware of my own biases and limitations and take precautions to provide a service that is not restricted by prejudice. I respect the diversity of individuals and treat everyone without discrimination based on color, race, belief, gender, sexuality, social context, or mental and physical abilities.
Integrity and self-responsibility: I maintain honesty, truthfulness, and accuracy in my practice. I prioritize my own self-care and well-being to ensure I am fit to provide quality care to my clients.
I offer my services to the general public only in areas where I am trained and competent. I ensure that the premises and facilities I use for hypnotherapy are suitable, appropriate, and respectful of client privacy. I discuss realistic outcomes and limitations with my clients and inform them of the confidentiality of our sessions within the bounds of the law. I respect my clients' autonomy to choose whether to engage in therapy and provide clear information about fees, payment terms, and any potential charges.
During the delivery of my services, I prioritize client autonomy and well-being, maintaining respect and dignity. I am attentive to diversity issues and ensure that no factors such as religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, politics, or social standing adversely influence client treatment. I refrain from crossing appropriate boundaries in the therapeutic relationship, including engaging in sexual relationships or exploitative behavior. I am mindful of the power dynamics and maintain professional boundaries.
I remain aware of my limitations and refer clients to other practitioners or medical advisors when necessary. I prioritize client safety and take all reasonable steps to ensure it. I deliver therapeutic services in appropriate ways, primarily through face-to-face sessions, but recognizing the suitability of online mediums when harm is not a concern.
In my advertising and promotion, I provide truthful and accurate information about my qualifications, skill-base, and facilities. I comply with advertising standards and regulations. I display valid qualifications and certificates and refrain from misleading clients with titles that may cause confusion. I maintain confidentiality within the client-therapist relationship, ensuring the security and privacy of client records. I handle digital records in compliance with data protection regulations.
I commit to ongoing professional development to enhance my skills and competence. I engage in regular supervision with a qualified supervisor and discuss cases that may require referral. I continuously update my knowledge and skills through a varied range of continuing professional development activities.
By following these ethical principles, I aim to provide the highest standard of care and uphold the values of the National Hypnotherapy Society.
